Build a Red Hot Brand with Emotional Marketing

An advertisement grabbed my attention this week (that doesn’t happen all too often) and I was excited to finally see an ad that was able to do this by incorporating elements of emotional marketing!

The advertisement was for Virgin Atlantic and it was advertising how they are still around after 25 years and are still red hot. I could describe the ad for you, but it’s easier if you just watch it for yourself. Take a peek.

What I see here is a pretty good example of emotional marketing being used via a television commercial. There are several techniques that are put to work here that connect the viewer to their brand. A combination of upbeat music, bright red colour and sex appeal of the staff they do a great job of standing out and grabbing attention. In fact, when I first watched this commercial I glazed over the first 20 seconds until the music kicked in, the colours grabbed me, and the sex appeal of the staff kept me watching. By the way, all of this is packaged in their overall brand message of not trying to be the biggest, instead they strive to be the best in customer service and innovation. Their name may not be that well known, but I’m sure after watching this commercial many people may, as the two men said, look into Virgin Atlantic for their next flight or career because of this advertisment.

There is a lot that is told through this ad from how the woman waves at the child to how the women react with men. But overall those elements can be forgotten. They used certain elements of emotional marketing to create a commercial that not only stood out and compelled me to watch, which is very difficult to do on television these days, but they built their brand and established themselves as a major player in their industry. If I was in the UK I would definitely look into Virgin Atlantic the next time I’m going to book a flight. That’s where the real success lies.

If anyone finds another advertisment that stood out for them share it with me. I would love to see what’s standing out for people and find out why and how it does this. The best way to understand emotional marketing is to find examples of where it is used.

Thank you for maintaining such a wonderful site. Your site was not just useful but also very inventive too. There normally are only few bloggers who can create technical articles that creatively. Keep up the good work !!
