Change is Already Happening
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 10:15A recent news story about Pepsi not placing an advertisement in the upcoming Superbowl is not getting the big hype I thought it would. Most people think it’s because the economy is rough and it’s Pepsi watching their spending. That very well could be, but I don’t think it’s the reason considering that Pepsi has plenty of money to spend.
Perhaps it’s Pepsi realizing that television advertising is dying out and there are smarter ways to spend the marketing budget and get a better bang for their buck. We’re in the world of a new marketing age and it’s the weakness of too many organizations to just follow what has been done and not invest in a new approach to marketing.
And I don’t mean signing up for a Twitter account as new marketing. Perhaps Pepsi is investing in a creative new marketing direction. We’ll have to keep an eye out for them to see what direction they move in over the next few months.
