‘Follow me’ ‘Become a Fan of my Page’ – What is this all really?

facebookliketwitter-follow-me-bannerI logged into Linkedin this past Friday, to find that the two most popular conversations are: ‘Be a fan of our page and we will be a fan of yours’ and ‘Follow our company and we will follow you’.

One huge question here, ‘What is the VALUE of doing this?’

Aside from having some numbers to show a client ‘how popular they are now because of you’ what is the value you actually give to the client. Does it make sense to have a bunch of Pepsi soda drinkers follow Coke if they have no intention of having anything to do with the brand including being a customer, well not 100% no as there is some sort of value there. But overall who cares how many people follow you or are fans if you do nothing with them.

As part of Digital Marketing, I’m constantly thinking about the whole brand from the customer to sales people of the brand to what that brand is and backwards. Bringing value to the brand virally in a platform that makes sence both for the client and for the customer. WIN WIN, as @thisismarshill would say.
