Managing Expectations in the Office

About 6 weeks ago our LIV interactive owner Coree Francisco took a full time position and great opportunity with a local interactive agency in Winnipeg Mars Hill Group (http://www.marshillgroup.com/) as an Account Executive and taking on the search engine optimization and some social media strategy.

As normal, taking this on also meant taking a break from other things going on including LIV so we have not been as avidly pushing and promoting as well as using LIV over the past 6 weeks, this was so expectations could be managed.

It is very normal that more and more of us find it hard to get it all done in the day, so managing the expectations of a daily routine is very important. Things like setting a calendar up for you booking time when needed is just the first step of making sure you manage expectations of others, like your boss, and you since you are always in some way your own boss.

Communication is the only way to get this done, and this is the main focus area for us to manage LIV, growth in terms of development and knowledge as well the network that helps keeps us successfully aligned with the industry, and well a full time job where clients team and internal demands time which all MUST be managed effectively.

In some ways, communication is really all you need to ensure you stay on top of so you can manage expectations. At Mars Hill they have 1 on 1 meetings every 2 weeks with the president and weekly with our direct manager. In fact, Coree has one this morning where the next step for her is managing time and expectations so she can live up to and exceed them. This is a unique and VERY effective style of keeping the conversation going and making sure that everyone gets time to talk to the busiest people in the office.

Remember too, that likely your own personal expectations exceed those of any manger (hopefully) so make sure to set up necessary meetings or check points and communicate often and effectively and life in the office around managing those expectations will be easier to do.
