In addition to my other post, Being Creatively Aware of Anti-SPAM Laws, this post provides some tips to help you build a better campaign.

It is better to be aware then to hope your compliant, and being complaint also helps build a better marketing campaign overall.

Related Tips:

Tip#1: Use a separate and non-direct email address for ALL your online uses like newsletters, surveys, your websites’ ‘Contact Me’ and any other online form even when purchasing an item online. This will cut down on the spam in your inbox.

Tip#2: CAN-SPAM laws have been around longer, and are slightly stricter then the ECPA in Canada. By setting your default anti-spam rules around CAN-SPAM, while not ignoring anything in ECPA, you will create a ‘best practice’ for your company making it easier to be compliant in North America.

Tip #3: If you ASK people if they would like to receive your newsletter they are more likely to say yes and those who say yes are likely interested in your business or they will pass it on to others who could be. Those who are not and don’t sign up would likely not have impacted business for you anyways and you are better off.

Tip #4: Use an online email marketing company, who specialize in email blasts like newsletters. They have taken steps to be complaint and can also provide you detailed analytics that can help you determine if your newsletter or other related business email blasts were a success.
