Design It To Last

The digital media industry is a large one servicing basically all other industries in business, brand awareness and the more technical end of consumer data collection and analytics. Every business in some aspect needs and depends on our services to get their brands message out and to keep them more connected to their consumers more then ever now.

The hard part of this industry is staying alive. Since literally anyone can build a website (and I use that term ‘anyone’ very loosely) or use a design software program so it is harder today for designers to make their mark and stay strong. The problem is that clients think this way in some aspect, that it is the software program that helps a designer design so it should be cheep. *Just like the programs we use to design are cheep right?

WRONG! Where is the quality?

In my opinion the best kind of designer is one that always was a designer. Sketching and painting as a kid, maybe into photography, pastels and charcoals, a keen sense and eye for anything and everything to do with design and teaching themselves most if not all of what they know. This is pure passion at it’s best. You can be taught how to use programs to improve your design skills and but no amount of education in any school will make you a designer. It comes from within.

Designing It To Last, is all about quality. Client A wants a website and needs a new brand but only has $500.00 to do this. Impossible? I think so if you want something to last more then a year sure and be of quality design your happy to show everyone. If you are getting it done to just get it done, well $500 or even free is just a waste of everyone’s time and money.

A designer should be allowed to take their time when creating something new for anyone. Look at options online, magazines even television where inspiration can be found. About half of the time it takes for a designer to do something is spent doing R&D. Designers take the clients request and look at it as a problem then try to solve it. Incorporate current industry standards and popular demands in all aspects of our media world both in design and technology. Designers generate ideas from this that then help promote the client as best as they can for years to come. THIS is designing it to last.

No client should have to re-brand or re-design their website every couple of years unless you can do this internally being a web shop or agency of some sort. The more you invest the more likely you are going to be able to work with a designer who can help set you up for years to come, while also feeding you ideas to get that client thinking of additional items they can do.

It’s about passion, quality, experience and designing it to last!
